Calhouns – Pigeon Forge, TN

We decided to give Calhoun’s in Pigeon Forge, TN a try after we found out they had a dedicated gluten free menu. We were seated quickly and our server, Brandon, was very knowledgeable about the gluten free menu and cross contamination issues. The menu had several selections but the entrees were limited. Brandon suggested the salmon. He explained that when a gluten free menu item was entered into their order system, it went straight to the manager and the head cook. He said the salmon was grilled on their main grill but aluminum foil was used to cover the grill to eliminate cross contamination. My wife ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes and brochlli.  I had the barbque pork plate with fries (the fries are gluten free if ordered without seasoning).

The salmon was ok but not the best. The grill flavor was missing due to it being cooked on the aluminum foil and there was no seasoning on it. The barbque was good but it is not on the gluten free menu. I guess to sum up the experience, we liked the atmosphere, we liked our waiter but the food could have been better.

You can eat gluten free at Calhoun’s in Pigeon Forge but it would not be our first choice.
